So you finally start driving traffic and generating leads for your business… But then it dawns on you… ‘Oh no! I’m going to actually have to pick up the phone and call these people! How in the world do I do that?’
Closing leads over the phone can seem like quite a daunting task if you’ve never done it before… I know I was pretty nervous and intimidated when I was first learning how to close leads over the phone. But after a while, I was able to get into a flow and start closing leads like crazy! I closed over 80 people into my business in less than 90 days and became the #1 recruiter in the entire company! And I didn’t have any previous experience with phone sales at all.
My good friend and I were talking the other day about all of the horrible mistakes we made when we were just newbies to internet marketing.
And it dawned on me…

Here’s my personal list of the top 10 newbie mistakes.
Let’s face it… Online marketing is all about communication. The better your writing and speaking skills, the more success you will create and the more money you will make. Web copywriting, which is the term for the words and phrases you use in your sales letters, capture pages, emails, and any other form of marketing.
Life is pretty crazy sometimes. I have to say, the most transformative lesson I think I’ve ever had to learn is to let go of any expectations… To let go of my personal demands on the moment.
This is a hard lesson for many of us to learn, especially when it comes to business. We are so used to dreaming, fantasizing, and planning how things SHOULD be… When in reality, we have no clue how things will work out. No clue whatsoever. And from my experience, if I ever have any expectations for something, it usually never works out the way I expect… Ever.
Now, expectations are very different from goals. Goals are necessary to have when building a business because they set your intentions and keep you on track to accomplish what you’re looking to do.
Expectations are when we expect something to work out the way we WANT it to. When we have these expectations, we almost always set ourselves up for disappointment because we become rigid in our acceptance of the end result. If it doesn’t work out exactly how we expect it to, we become disappointed, angry, sad, or discouraged…
Let me give you an example… Let’s say you’re in the network marketing industry and you bring someone into your business who is a so-called ’superstar’ when it comes to network marketing.
You automatically have expectations of what this person is going to do. You start counting all the money you plan on making and thoroughly expect this person to make you rich. Then let’s say he or she never does a darn thing. You’ve completely set yourself up. You’ve set yourself up for disappointment and your emotions are going to interfere with your ability to continue doing business. But if you never expected anything from this person to begin with, you would never have been so disappointed.
This is a principle you can apply to any area of business, and even life in general.
It’s kinda similar to relationships, too. When you expect your partner to be a certain way or expect something out of your relationship, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment because things NEVER usually work out the way we expect.
But if we just LET GO of all expectations and let go of every demand we have on life… We give ourselves room to receive the true gifts that are already present. Expectations usually block us from seeing the truth in each moment. When we make demands, whether in business or in life, we are not OPEN to accepting what IS.
Accepting what IS in each and every moment is where true freedom lies. We never know what life has in store for us and when we let go of demands and expectations, we will see the natural FLOW of life.
This person that never did anything in your network marketing company could turn out to be a lifelong friend… Or maybe even someone you will partner up with later down the road… You never know why things happen the way they do.
But they happen for a darn good reason!
Whenever I expect something to work out a certain way, it NEVER does… But in the end, I always end up seeing WHY things happened the way they did and it always seems to work out for the best.
One of my favorite sayings is that ‘Life is always rigged in your favor’…
Keep your dreams, keep your goals, but just be open to whatever the outcome may be. And we can only be open when we’ve let go of demands and expectations. And let me just say, from personal experience, when you do actually ‘let go’ of your expectations, you will see just how liberating that really is.
To let go of your personal demands and expectations means that you put your trust in life… You learn to trust the flow.

You see, in the world of online marketing, where there is a big focus on lead generation, sales, and generating profits… It can be easy to forget something very important.
It can be easy to forget that you’re dealing with REAL PEOPLE. People with real feelings, emotions, people with different personalities, different ways of relating to the world, and different reasons for starting a home business. And deep down, all of these people are looking to be understood… They are looking for people they can relate to and feel connected to.
When someone feels like they are aligned with who you are and that you actually CARE about their success, they are so much more likely to partner up with you.
This industry is all about RELATIONSHIPS. And when interacting with business partners, customers, and clients, your focus should be all on them. Take the time to figure out how you can be of service to them, how you can help them, and how you can better their lives in some way.
In order to do this, you must first put yourself in their shoes. This is called EMPATHY. Empathy is the ability to recognize or understand another person’s state of mind, feeling, or emotion. And this is where the real ‘bond’ in relationships happens.
The story I want to share with you today is a true story about empathy… So take a few moments, sit down, relax, and enjoy.
It’s Monday night and you sit down to work on your online business. You just learned about video marketing, so you decide you’re gonna give it a shot. But then you get out your video camera and all of a sudden, feelings of insecurity and fear come over you. You say to yourself, ‘Gosh, I just don’t think I’m good at this… What if I look stupid? What if no one likes it? I just don’t have what it takes…’
And then you STOP. You realize that these feelings of insecurity and fear seem quite familiar. In fact, they’ve been accompanying you pretty much your entire life. You’ve always felt somewhat insecure inside and not ‘good enough’. These gut-wrenching emotions just keep rearing their ugly head over and over again. When will you break this vicious cycle and start BELIEVING in the inherent power you have inside?
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. All of us, as human beings, are actually ADDICTED to our emotions. If you notice a pattern where you consistently feel a certain way… Whether it’s feelings of jealousy, greed, sadness, anger, victimization, insecurity, fear, or anything else… You are actually addicted to these emotions. If you become consumed with a certain emotion and you just can’t stop it or control it, you must be addicted to it.
There is actually a physiological explanation for how this happens in our bodies… At the cellular level, we become addicted to the emotions we repetitively experience in our lives. But knowing this is actually quite EMPOWERING. You don’t need to go to rehab or go seek a counselor… You just need to become ‘conscious’ of it. And just by watching this video below, you’ll already have much more awareness about your emotional body and already be on path towards breaking free…
